Solar Eclipse

I looked at the pictures. There was nothing amiss

THe sun was directly behind the moon and you could see some stars around the eclipse.

"wow this is beautiful." i muttered. i am so glad i invested in a high res cam.

"Beth, there is nothing amiss here. Does every one have these... powers?" I looked at the glass and thought about my dream. I shook my head.

Then the glass smashed against my head.

"Dang it! i gotta get better at this. For the sake of my health!" i laughed.

"i don't know. you're the first i've met. i had heard about others who had abnormal strength or something, but back then we didn't have planes so i couldn't just up and go see them for myself." i replied.

she out of habit got a tissue for her head.

"oh wait, i keep forgetting.." she said after the tissue came back blood-free.

there was suddenly a knock on the door.

"vera? beth? it's paul." he said.
"open the door. he knows." i told vera.
"kay." she replied reluctantly.

as soon as the door opened he flew in. not literally, he just came in really fast.

"beth, something really freaky is going on." he said sitting on the bed across from me.
"paul? whats--?" i began
"i was down in the dining area, and all of the sudden i could see outside."
"are you sure you weren't just looking out of a window?" vera asked, not seeming that interested.
"no. i was seeing through the wall. like...well, superman i guess..."

vera and i exchanged glances. what the heck was wrong with this generation?

I looked at Paul. adn then looked back at Beth.

"Ok. Well this is wierd...." I glanced at the bathroom, and saw that we were out of soap. I blinked and then saw the wall..

i gave the wall an inquisitive look.

Paul started to freak.

"Ok so am i like you now Beth?" he asked.

"Like Vera too. This is one Hell of a generation." She said.

Paul looked at me oddly.

I rolled my eyes and tried to lift another glass that was next to the wall, without hittingmy self in the head.

I lifted the glass and it flew right into my hand.

I smiled, glad that i didnt almost give myself a concussion.

"like vera? she's, you know, special too?" paul asked. he was starting to freak out.
"paul calm down. shh someone will hear you if you keep shouting. yes. vera has powers." i said soothingly.
"what can she do?" paul asked, looking at vera suspiciously.
"a mix of things," vera said putting the glass on a nearby table, "heal fast, move things, and now..."

hold on. she could do more? since when?

"now what? you have a new power?" i asked.
"we are out of soap..." she half whispered to herself.
"what the freak?" paul said.
"i can see through walls too."

okay this was freaky. so both her and paul could do the same thing? i was totally lost.

"do they feed you toxic waste in school now or something?!?" i said.

I started to laugh i know it wasnt funny but the way she said it.

"Wait. Paul go to the dining room." i said, my brain gears were in motion

"Why?" he was still freaking.

"Just do it!"

He went out of the room..

I blinked, and blinked. The room stayed the same.

"That's it." i said.

"okay what the heck is going on?" i started.
"i think..."
"yes you think...?"
"i think i know my power."
"would you mind telling me? paul is on the edge of hysterics and you kicked him out of the room!"

what was with these kids? in my day none of this would have sat well with anyone. sending someone out of the room in that condition.....tisk tisk.

gosh i sounded old.

paul came back. and looked even more freaked out.

"paul...you better lay down...." i said.
"why? is it bad? does she kill people?!?" he said quickly.
"no you idiot you just look like you are about to pass out." vera said.
"that wasn't needed." i scolded.

then paul went down.

"dang." i said. "would you help?" i asked vera.

we lifted him up and laid him on the bed.

i sat beside him.

"paul?" i whispered.
"d*** it. d*** it im a freak....we're all freaks..." he murmered.
"okay, calm down. just chill out for a minute paul."
"ha. i remeber you saying that to me when you lived in oklahoma. when i broke my left leg.." he whisered.
"yes, paul. good times...are you okay?" i asked.
"oh for the love of....wake up you stupid a**. im more of a freak of you and i handled it okay. beth's been alive for more than a century."
"vera..." i said rolling my eyes.
"beth she's right. im okay. this is just a lot to take in." he said.

you're tellin me.

While Beth was tending to Paul, i sat on the bed. i had a killer headache.

Beth walked over to me while i was rubbing my temples. "You ok?" she asked.

"How's Paul?" i said avoiding the question.

"He'll live. He's just really freaked."

"Yeah i c that!" i laughed a bit. i looked out the window. and got an idea.

"Hey, u wanna go down to the field where we watched the Eclipse? if the answer isnt already in us, it might be there."

"good idea. paul is okay to go. just fainting."
"okay. grab him and go. but we better take the back door..." vera said.
"because there are too many people."
"vera? there is no back door." paul said, getting up. "check."

she stared into space it seemed.

"d***." she said.
"but there is a fire escape...." paul said, smiling.
"ha nice work!" i said.
"whatever. let's go."

we quickly climbed down the fire escape. paul went first, to see if anyone was coming.

"its clear." he said. "come on, beth." he said, grabbing my hand and pulling me through the window.
"what about me?" vera joked.
"don't fall." paul said, smirking.
"oh please." she replied.

paul helped me to the stairs which were hooked up in the middle between our room and the one beside it.

"you know i could have just jumped." i said.
"i know. but this way is funner. like we're sneaking out. haha." he said.
"come on already. lets go." vera said, checking to see if anyone was coming.

i had to admit, sneaking out was fun.

we got to out of the Alley when a revelation struck me.

"Guys!" i wispered loudly" we dont have a car! and the field is about 10 mi away from here!!"

Paul caught my same revelation and we both looked at Beth.

"Yes i have a car. Now come on lets go!"

We ran hunched over, to her car. I jumped in shotgun and Paul jumped in back.

"Paul,or Vera whatever works, check the buildng to make sure that no one knows were gone."

"Clear" i said

"Clear" paul echoed.

She hit the gas and we shot off. only halfway down the road did i realize that she was driving a black ferarri

i guess when you can live forever, money isnt an issue

"wow. this car is....freakin sweet." paul said.
"yeah. well when you live as long as i do, money grows." i said laughing.
"how many miles do you have on this thing?" paul asked.
"as many as it took to get from the dealer's to the airport to here."
"holy s***." he whispered.

i laughed to myself. this was quite amusing.

"turn here." vera said. she had gotten shotgun.

when we finally arrived it was very dark.

"did anyone think to bring flashlights?" i asked.
"uhh no." paul said.
"nope." vera said.
"heh guess im providing those too." i said.

"Wow do you like come prepared for everything?" i laughed.

we got out of the car and made our way to the field.

"Here ill take this area, and u guys can split up the remaining area." i dhrugged and began looking.

i founds something shiny among the grasses, it was just Jessica's UV light. she had brought it to prove that UV's couldnt be seen during an eclipse. she was wrong.

I turned off the flashlight and turned on the UV light.

The grasses underneath the light began to gleam a bluish color.

"Uh, Guys? i found something!" i yelled.

"beth, she found something." paul shouted in my direction.
"already?" i said, catching up to him.
"guess so." he said.

we ran up to where vera was stitting on the ground. she had a small device in her had, shining it on the ground.

"what the freak is that?" paul said, pointing at the ground.

it was glowing. the ground was glowing.

"is that a UV light?" i asked.
"yes." she murmered.
"why is the ground glowing?" paul asked.
"the eclipse." i said, half listening.

i was studying the pattern of the glowing. there were curves in the glowing, as if...

"this is where we were standing. here, give me the UV light." i said.

i shined it first on paul, then vera, then me. we had speckles of glow all over us.

"ill bet you 100$ that Kara or some normal person doesnt hav that." i said.

"The patterns in the glow indicate that something disturbed it."Paul said.

"So that means that the glow was either attracted to us in particular, or that it just picked us at random." i added.

-i wonder- i thought.

I tried to move the grass with my mind, It moved, and so did the glow.

Paul almost passed out again. Beth, just stood there.

"We could use this to find others." I murmered. "It wouldnt be hard, just find someone who looks a bit off and then.." i trailed off...

Beth looked at her watch. "Ok guys we gotta go. there about to come and tape ur doors."

I looked at Paul, and then at Beth. "Ill try, but if he gets any broken bones u cnt sue me."

it was settled. in the morning we were going to find people who glowed. there was a phrase i never knew would leave my mouth.

we ran into our rooms as soon as we could. i, though could walk, since i wasn't with their class.i opened the door to my penthouse and....

"oh my gosh you scared me! vera! how the heck....?" i said, laughing.
"kara was asleep, and i didn't feel like staying down there. climbed down the fire escape and went back in through the front door. figured you were on the penthouse floor so i made the door open and bam! here you are!" she said.
"you kids are freaks."
"technically, your my age." she said, flopping down on the couch.

"Either your age or 120." Beth said.

I shrugged. "U can, sleep, but im not tired. im going to.. practice? i guess you would call it? i dont want to accidently give anyone a concussion." i laughed.

Beth was silent. she didnt say a word.

i looked at her. "You dont like being special do you? Lemme guess, you think yourself a monster."

"i didn't used to." i said quietly.

i sat down in the huge armchair.

"i've been this way since i was 3. my first childhood memory was the eclipse. i didn't know any other life. i just never seemed to get hurt. after my mom died and i brought her back, i loved my gift. i would save dead animals i found, stuff like that. once my mother died again, though, and i couldn't bring her back, i started to hate it. then i stopped aging"

"when did you start to hate it?"

"after my 100th birthday. thats when i began killing myself. you name it i tried it."

"you...killed yourself? woah."

"i was sick of life. and when i heard about this eclipse i thought it would take away the gift, my morality would return. but it only made it worse. after i killed him,"

"the robber?"

"yes. after i killed him, i was horrified. i was even more horrified when i realized i was glad he was dead. and it scared me. im afraid someone i love will set me off and i will kill them. and not be able to bring them back."

"Ouch.so you can bring people back to life, kill them, and heal? thats pretty awesome." i said. *revelation* "So does that mean i can do tht too?"

"It would apearso." she said.

I got a glass to come to me.

Beth watched me with amusement. She just sat on her bed and watched me.. practice.

Sometimes i would drop the glass, and someimes it would spin out of control, and i had to stop it with my hands.

i got comfident and tried to get a glass of water to Beth. unfortunally, i spilled it on her and the glass shattered against her arm.

"Holy Sh*t! What the hell!?" she said and jumped up.

"Oh my gosh!!! Are you ok?!" i ran to help her, but she waved me off. I watched in amazement as her skin melded together.

i turned my arm upside-down and shook out the last of the glass fragments. by the time i had turned my arm back over it looked as if nothing had happened.

"wow. i keep forgetting...." vera said, still shocked.
"you'll get used to it. trust me." i replied.
"i am sorry, you know, for the mess."
"think nothing of it. keep practicing."

she continued to mobie things aroung the rooom. usually tiny objects like pens. she tried the foot stool a few times. she was starting to grasp her power a little.

"you like watching me practice." she said after an attempt to move the armchair.
"it's refreshing in a way. to know im not the only one out there...." i replied looking out the window.

i looked at the huge grandfather clock in the living room.

"we'd better go to bed. it's, like, 3 in the morning." i said.
"okay. im going to practice for a little while longer, then i'll sneak back."
"okay. good night vera" i said.

i was about to fall asleep when there was a knock on my wall. yes, my wall.

"beth, it's me, paul."
"paul? how did you know....oh yeah." i whispered, getting up.

why not use the door? oh yeah. he could see through walls. i lclosed my eyes for a second. when i opened them he was in my room.

"what the..? how.....?" i stuttered.
"i had gotted up and wanted to see you and vera. i finally found yall up here on thetop floor. without thinking i started walking. i ended up going through the wall to my bedroom."
"you went......through the wall?" i asked in amazement.
"yeah. then through the elevator doors, and through your bedroom wall."

im serious this generation was very very strange.

After Beth and i both got over the initial shock of someone walking through a wall, we both sat down on the bed.

I used my power to pull up a chair for Paul. Beth smiled. We talked for a bit and then I got up to leave.

"Here, instead of you going down the fire escape, let me take you." Paul said.

I gave him a wierd look and then walked over to him.

He took me by the hand and walked through the wall pulling me with him.

When we got to the other side-"Oh my god that was wierd." i told him. He smiled.

We got to the elevator and we walked through the doors, then we were falling. He had forgotten to call the elevator. Someone else must have used it since he used it thr first time.

-Paul's dead- i thought. - i have to try and stop us, or at least slow us down, were falling pretty fast.-

I looked at the walls and put my hand to it, we were instantly slowed down, and then we were just floating.

Warm blood ran down my arm, where it had made contact with the shaft. Paul watched in amazement as my hand healed.

I shivered. i would never get used to that.

I started to lower us down slowly, i looked through the wall and saw that we were one above my floor.

"Paul, take us through here and then u can just go through the floor." i instructed.

He did as i told him and we were on my floor. "Go ahead and go back, i can get to my room." i smiled and he left.

I got to my room and the tape on the door was broken. I opened the door and walked in.

I flicked on the lights and Kara was on the bed. Well, everything except her head.

i had never in my life had actual friends. i never really relate well. i knew i was a freak. but now i actually did. it was nice.

i laid my head down on the pillow and closed my eyes.

i was sitting a dark room. i thought i was by myself, but then i heard a noise. almost like someone laughing. i turned slowly. suddenly the lights were on. i was in a huge white room. i looked down, seeing that i was dressed in a long white robe. i looked around the room. there was no one there.

"hello?" i whispered.
"beth. beth karasi." a voice said.

i tuned back around to find a dark-haired man in my chair.

"you are about to ask how i knew your name. i know everything about you. and about paul. and vera. and others like you." he said.
"who are you?"
"dolan. do not be afraid, dear beth. stop fearing for your life. you know you can't die."
"are you in my head? how do you know who i am? what do you want?"
"im special, beth. like vera and paul. like you. you're special, beth."


i shot out of bed. it was still dark out. i got up and checked the living room clock. 5:17 am.

i called Mr.Lanning. This was terrible! Kara... dead... i couldnt believe it!

i txtd beth: Beth! Kara is dead! i walkd into my room and i saw her... decapitated...on the bed! I am going down 2 the dining area to chill while the police investigate.

i walked out of my room.. i rung out my hair. i had taken a shower before alerting anyone. i needed an alibi.

one of the policemen took me over.
" mam. do you know what happened here?"

"No.." my voice broke, "she was fine when i went 2 take a shower... when i came back... she was ... gone..."

"ok. some of your friends confermed your alibi. you didnt have nething 2 do with this"

i took off downstairs, nt waiting for the elevator.

beth was waiting for me in the lobby.

"beth! oh my gosh!" vera said.

she broke into a run when she saw me. she had tears in her eyes.

"vera! are you okay? tell me everything." i said.

i quickly led her down the hall to the pool. paul was waiting like i had asked him to.

"kara......dead...i can't believe it..." he said when we walked in.
"yeah..." vera said.
"do you know who did this?" paul asked vera.
"no. i happened while we were in the penthouse." she replied.
"guys," i spoke up, "i had a dream just before she texted me. and it was......odd."
"well what happened?" paul asked. vera laid herself down on a pool chair.
"it all seemed so real....i was in a room talking to someone. his name was dolan. he told me he knew all about us. we were special. that there were others of our kind."
"s***. just what we need." paul said.
"do you think...that he's the one that.....did that to kara?" vera asked, sitting up.
"i don't know. i know they must be related somehow. but he was..like us. he knew what i was going to say before i said it. like he could read my mind or something..."

i looked at paul and vera. paul was shaking a little. vera was...she seemed scared.

"vera? i need you to tell me what you saw."

"Paul took me to my floor and then went to his room. I went up to the door, and saw that the tape was broken, i phased through the door and saw Kara's body on the bed. I dont know where her head was but it wasnt were it should be. There were a few hand prints, but they were Kara's. I held in my scream and went to take a shower to give myself an alibi. Then i came out and put on my best "scared person" face. Thats when i txtd u."

"There has to be some connection..."Beth said..

Paul dipped his feet in the pool..

I tried to get my mind off of things, i made the water dance into complex forms.
