meanwhile i was wracking my brain for an answer. what did the dream have to do with kara? did the dark-haired man...dolan.....have anything to do with it? did he.....kill her? did he get somone else to? why?

"vera...." i said.
"yes?"
"did beth have any....abilities? that you knew of?"
"i don't know. i didn't check."
"we have to see."
"why?" asked paul.
"what if dolan killed her. because she was special...."

"paul!" vera said in dicussed.
"actually vera, he's right." i said.
"still. she's dead paul. dead." vera said.

she leaned back and closed her eyes. we had to see her body. they would take it away soon. i had to see if she was like us. because if she was, who would be next?

"im going." i said, getting up.
"where?" paul asked.
"to see if she was.....special."
"i'll go." paul said.
"no. you shouldn't have to see someone you knew like that."

and with that i grabbed the UV light and left the pool.

I got up and started to pace around the pool, i blinked and watched to see if there was anybody around, there wasnt. just Paul and me.

"This has got to be like the best and the worst week ever." i said to no one in particular.

i quickly made my way up to the 3rd floor. there was police tape covering the whole area. i had to get through. i thought of a plan...

"uh, miss? im afraid you have to leave." a police officer said suddenly.

i put on my best sad face and forced sometears.

"please. kara was my cousin. i have to see her. one last time before they...before they..." i said starting to cry.
"miss, what's your name?" he asked, a look of pity in his eyes.
"liz."
"liz, i don't know if you want to go in there. she was.....decapitated."
"please, just let me see her...."
"well...."

he looked at me, then at kara's door. he probably thought i was a nut case. who would want to see their headless cousin?

"okay. i'll give you a few minutes alone."

There was a shadow of someone outside the pool room. i ran to the wall hoping to not be seen.

I watched the figure walk to the door, which i knew was locked.

But the figure opened it with ease.

"Paul! Get out of here!" i wispered loudly. he hesitated, and then ran through the wall.

I walked to face the dark figure.

He had dark hair and bright green eyes.

"Well well well. what do we have here Miss Vera?"

as soon as the officer shut the door behing me, my hand flew to my mouth. i've seen bad injuries before. even decapitations. but this one was horrible.

there was blood everywhere, telling me that she had been alive. and awake. her pulse must have been racing. i put my hand in my pocket and took out the UV light.

"thanks again for the light..." i whispered.

my eyes couldn't help but tear up.

but i couldnt focus on that. i had to see if she was like us. special. that dream haunted me.

i turned off the lights and slowly made my way to her body. i turned on the UV light and gasped.

"I do say. your friend Kara had a wonderful gift." He then held a ball of crackling electrictity. The shot it at me and i hit the wall with a thud.

He shocked me again and again. I knew i wouldnt die though, apparently he thought i would, because i wasnt around beth. but i had learned to hold on to an ability.

I threw him against a wall by his neck.

"Tell me who you are, and what you want or i will end your sorry existance." i said coldly. i just had over 100,000 volts run through my body, no i wasnt in a good mood.

"Um,.. ok." and I left.

it was everywhere. all over the bed. the walls. the....window. it was clear whoever killed kara was special. and so was krista.

"d*** it. why did i have to have this life?" i whispered to myself.

i took the light over kara again. it was clear she had been special. the UV light showed the glowing matter all over her arms and neck. suddenly something caught my eye.

"hold up now...." i whispered.

there was a hand print on kara. too big to be her's. it was on her chest, as if someone had been holding her down.

"what are we dealing with here?" i whispered. my hand was shaking.

i quickly left the room and dashed back down to the pool. right as i got to the door i heard vera's voice.

"tell me who you are..." i heard her say faintly.
"oh s***." i whispered.

He tried to tear at his neck, trying to free the invisible bonds holding him.

I brought my hand to his eyelevel, it crackled with electrictity, his eyes widened.
He knew me, but he knew not of my power.

"Tell me who you are, why you killed my friend, and why you were about to kill Paul and i."

i looked through the glass. it was mirrored on my side, so i had to put my face up against it. i couldn't see anything. it took me a minute to realize i was looking at the enemy, pinned on the glass.

"vera..." i whispered to myself.

i move a little left of the villian up against the glass, so vera could see me. i wanted desparately to tap against the glass, but the last thing she needed was a distraction.

"i-i-i didn't...you had better watch out, girl!" the mad said, quietly at first then turning into a yell.
"and why is that? i'm not the one against the wall." she said, smiling.
"surely you know there are others. and they will be looking for you too. whether you kill me or not. and not just you. your new friends too. peter is being followed as we speak.."

oh s*** i said. i had to find paul. and fast.

what are we getting ourselves into? i thought as a shiver of fear slid down my back.

i quickly ran out of the hotel before Vera could know that i had seen what she had done. as i entered the empty streets of the back alleys behind our hotel, i collapsed. i was terrified. not even a week ago i was living a quiet, invisble life. no one knew i existed.

now i was being hunted.

i crawled behind an old dumpster that had long since been abandoned. i put my arms around my knees and cried silently in frustration.

snap out of it! you have better things to do then cry like a four-year-old. i thought.

i had to find peter. soon. i slowly got up and peered around the dumpster. i disappeared off into the night. i had no idea where i was going. i stopped for a second and sat on a park bench. i had to get my thoughts in order.

"why can they have this written down in some what to do if you're completely lost handbook or something?" i said aloud to myself.

just then, i heard a sound behind me. i cursed silently in my head. i quickly got up and started walking again. no way was i going to check that out. i've seen my fair share of horror movies, and investigating was a death wish.

um, hello? you can't die, stupid i reminded myself.

there was the sound again. i stopped in mid-step. i was half turned around when i was shoved to the ground. something heavy was on top of me. i couldn't see. my face was shoved into the hard ground. i let out a whimper. suddenly, a hand covered my mouth.

"beth. shh. dont move." a muffled voice said, whispering so quietly i could barely make out the words.
